Evening thoughts on AI
Wed evening, I sit here and think… And since everyone can sit and also knows how (with thinking it may be worse sometimes, but no one forbids it) - I make use of this privilege given to Us - and.. I sit and think.
AI here, AI there - so why not reflect on it for a moment, well, while we still think, because perhaps soon even this ability will completely disappear.
Actually, I can imagine, even without effort, the world of the future - no, no, not that vision where AI exterminates humanity - that won’t be necessary, we’ll “take care of ourselves” without anyone’s help - in which AI will take over absolutely every sphere of human life.
So AI will make all decisions for Us - evaluate, verify, choose, warn, suggest. So everything will be faster, more efficient, better and more wonderful.
But will it really? Well, that’s exactly what I’m wondering, will it really?
Because why does it need to be faster? Even more content, more images, films, music, more noise… and all of it created by AI? Who’s supposed to read, watch, listen to it? Ah, of course!!! We’ll use AI to filter all of this for Us? Really???
And what will we really do to ourselves when we outsource the entire cognition load - what will happen to Us, humans. How many of Us will still use our heads for actual creating, analyzing, critical thinking and remembering - all needed to build what we have under our skulls - and how many of Us will be satisfied with giving simple commands to the “machine” (yes, yes, they will be simple commands, because where would the more complex ones come from).
Will anyone still remember one core principle: “use it or lose it”. Science my friends, science: neuroplasticity, cognitive atrophy, active vs passive processing and the “Google effect”.
Maybe it’s not a cheerful vision, but there is hope… Parents, guardians, teachers have enormous influence on shaping young people - whether cognitive effort will be treated as an interesting challenge, or perhaps only and exclusively as a life element that takes away time (because after all there’s something that will do it for me). I’m curious how this will unfold further. So my dear: take care of your little ones, what sits in their skulls also requires work… And working on precisely this, I’m convinced, will allow Your children to be several lengths ahead of the rest of society, already in the near future.
One way or another, I have a fantastic idea for opening a chain of Mental Gyms: open 24h per day, individual care by personal cognitive fitness coaches.
